Professional Opinions On Cleaning With Bleach

Now, there is a wide variety of cleaners and solutions that people use to clean vinyl siding. We have spoken with many experts in the industry and found that there are many different opinions. Principally, we’ve found that there is a conflict of opinion among the experts about if bleach is okay to use on siding or not.

We received input from a number of experts in the industry. We posed them this question:

Using Bleach as Cleaner

Most professionals we talked to said it that bleach is okay to use as long as you know what you are doing and exactly how to use it.

Of the 84% that said to use bleach, 19% specified by saying that is important to use SH bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite). The others didn’t specify what type of bleach they use. But normal clorox bleach contains about 5-7% active sodium hypochlorite. You can check out Clorox to know more about the chemical makeup of bleach.

We talked to 20 professionals and got their opinion on using bleach as a vinyl siding cleaner. The results were pretty clear. Most professionals trust bleach to clean algae and mold off siding. They emphasized that it is important to know how to use the bleach.

Obviously, you’re not going to use pure bleach in order to clean your siding. You’ll need to dilute the bleach into a water or cleaning solution. A diluted bleach solution makes it safe for using around plants and shrubbery.
